Candice Class Title: Candice

Area of Study: Embroidery
Class Hours: 15, 18 or 21
Class Type: Project
Skill Level: This is an intermediate or advanced embroidery class. An adventurous beginner with basic embroidery knowledge is welcome

This sweet classic baby dress features a Madeira embroidered overlay suggesting thoughts of springtime approaching. Delicate daisies, buds and leaves accented with pastel eyelets and vines are nestled between the challenge of scalloped edges and hemstitched bars.

This sleeveless overlay dress pattern buttons down the back while the armholes feature a bias edge finish that folds towards the inside of your garment. The neck edge is finished with bias binding along the back while front neck edge seam allowances are sandwiched between the dress and the attached overlay. The dress can be made using an a-line or pleated skirt option.

For those students not interested in creating a dress a lingerie bag pattern with a similar embroidery design can be substituted for the dress pattern in your kit if you notify the instructor at least 4 weeks before class time. The same embroidery stitches used on the dress are included on the bag.

Techniques and stitches mastered during this multi-day class are:

  • Blanket stitch (part of the border)
  • Bullion stitch (daisy petals)
  • Small eyelets
  • Granitos (flower buds)
  • Hemstitching
  • Hemstitching along the fold
  • Hemstitched bars
  • How to stitch a scalloped border
  • Padded satin stitch (leaves)
  • Running stitch
  • Stem/outline (vines)
  • Trimming a scalloped border

We will also discuss how you can simplify this embroidery pattern to minimize the amount of hand work involved with this design.

This dress pattern is offered in sizes 12 or 18 months.

Construction details are discussed in class. All construction is completed at home.

This class can be offered as a 15, 18 or 21 hour class. Any of these extended format hours allows for more time to work on the project.
